I. Summary
The presentation entitled "EC CONVERSION: THE PALECO EXPERIENCE" by Cong. Ponciano D. Payuyo of APEC party list, presented in the "Accountancy Week Celebration Year 2011: Cooperative Forum" last July 22, 2011 at Hotel Intercontinental, Makati City, tackles the history of Palawan Electric Cooperative, Inc. (PALECO) and the struggles it faced from its incorporation up to the present. Issues made known in the presentation ranges from effects of changes in policies implemented, taxation issues up to the issue of incorporation/ turning into a cooperative, up to dividend sharing. The last portion of the presentation was allotted for the explanation of Cooperative Development Authority (CDA, and how it helps in organizations such as PALECO.
II. Reaction
When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves. ~Victor Frankl
The quotation above defines what happened with PALECO. In my opinion, after analyzing the presentation, I think the presentation only goes to show that organizations may it be a corporation or a cooperative is still under the rule of the law, hence they are still expected to follow otherwise face the consequences. I think the presentation is a good material, although I found it hard to really understand the perception/ concept in the mind of the author because the presentation is concise that it needs explanation to fully understand it. However I could say that I agree with what the author thinks about adapting to changes and PALECO being able to surpass difficult times, I also think that it is a brilliant idea to put the pros of being under CDA however, it might have been better if it also presented the cons of being under CDA if there is any.
III. Application
What I learned from the presentation is that it is important to adapt to changes that comes in our life. Like how PALECO adapted to changes in its environment it is important. It also presents that we must abide to the law. Hence for me the presentation presents a simple reminder that we should be good citizens of our country. This is applicable not only in our dealings with the society but even in our future work, or as students at our home and while studying, being a good citizen encompasses all those aspects and leads us to be better in our lives, thus if every citizen would be better our economy will also be better same with our society which will lead to a better nation.
