Women's rights and the way they have always been

treated has always been a controversial issue. Even though in some countries the

rights of women have changed throughout the years. In many of those countries

they are still not equal to the rights of the men. This poses a threat in the Middle

East because women have barely any option when it comes to marriage, labor, and

other aspects of the culture. In this essay I will explain how the rights of the

women in the Middle East are despicable, being violated in many different ways.

In a lot of countries from the Middle East like Iran, Irag,

and Afghanistan women are treated unfairly. They have little to say in what they

can wear, what they can do, when they can do something, and whom they can

make eye contact with. Accordingly to their Holy Bible (The Koran) women and

men are seen and treated equally. In some countries like Saudi Arabia women are

not allowed to drive. Most of the Middle East Countries abide by the rule that the

women have to cover all their skin, sometimes covering every inch of there body

from head to toe. Some of the women aren't allowed to look at any other men in

the eye other then their husbands.

In one particular place like the kingdom of Jordan, is a

Arab kingdom in the Middle East. They had a Women Right Movement that began

in the 20th century in a form of voluntary social and charitable activities. In 1945

they established The Jordanian Women's Union. The movement became more

active in demanding greater political, social, legal, and economic rights for women

until the kingdom gained independence from the Britain in the 1946. From 2004 to

the end of 2009, The Women's Right Movement made a number of gains like

women's suffrage, domestic violence, reproductive rights, equal pay and etc. It

also included the publication of the convention on the elimination of all terms of

discrimination against women.
