Driving through nature and oceans
Comparing and contrasting two poems that talks about nature and oceans. The poems that one will be discussing are Dixie Dirge by Katie Witham and the second poem is On the Dangers of Open Water by Elizabeth Wager. The main points are: compare and contrast the poems, the second is the setting; the third is the form of the poems. Many times there are some people that think that people does not have problems, but one can compare human life with nature and oceans and this is what this poems are about Dixie Dirge is about nature and On the Dangers of Open Water is about oceans.
These two poems have many things in common. But if one compares them, one is talking about nature. This poem compares nature with men. The second poem is about ocean and also comparing men with the ocean. They are comparing men because many time men get mad as nature or ocean does. The structure of these poems is basically the same they just have a few different things. The structure of the first poem Dixie Dirge it has elements such as simile, personification and lines are constructed. The second poem On the Dangers of Open Water has, personification and lines are lines constructed. The difference between them is that one has alliteration and the other the poem is a sonnet. Both of the poems have symbols the symbol of Dixie is nature and the symbol of Dangers is the ocean. Another thing that they have in common is that they do not have open of closed style.
The setting of the setting of both poems I can say it can be Real-World because both poem are talking about men's and comparing how men's are or how men's react to things in life. The first poem Dixie Dirge, talks about nature. It talks about natural disaster, grass, trees, land, fruits and all of these is comparing to men's. For example, "then the trees become gnarly men with dragging beards". In this part of the poem is comparing the trees to gnarly men. The second poem on the Dangers of Open Water this is also comparing men to ocean. This poem talks about ocean, shore, sailors, siren songs, and beauty. This poem compares men to ocean. An example of that can be the part of the poem that says "sailors dream of siren songs the creep". It does not say directly the word men but sailors are men's. It also talks about in a broad way of beauty. It talks about that beauty is hard to have it and many times we do not understand. These two poems are related because each one describes how men take life many times. Many times life can be hard, but after all that time of pressure that they had then it comes the bless and beauty part of our life are the beauty things that one enjoy life.
The form of the poem they are sad poems. They both talks about how men is a bad person when he is mad. In the first poem the form is sad and in almost the whole poem but in some part of the poem they have happy moments.
