I thought the team was at a low performing level. The four contextual factors most significantly related to team performance are adequate recourses, effective leadership, a climate of trust, and a performance evaluation. They did not have a copy of the assignment available to review at the meeting. Pat seems to have taken the leadership role of the team; however, eventually she gives into the other team member's persuasion of keeping the assignment "short and to the point"; although her idea was correct. There wasn't a climate of trust because the members were afraid to disrupt the harmony of the group or the team's progress when they disagreed. The individual members were held accountable as a team to complete the assignment within two weeks; however, they completed the assignment in two hours. The team had one meeting and they were all on time.
My concern of this team was that a few individuals were susceptible to conforming to the groups standards of making quick decisions and getting the job done. Members that are solely task oriented are not beneficial to the functioning of a team. Groupthink held up their performance. Had the team taken the time to collaborate; gather, organize, and share information they would had achieved a quality contract through analyzing problems. The team lacked diversity, they did not seek out differences in opinions or debate each other as problems arouse. The team lacked reflexivity and was not willing to make changes so that the contract would be more detailed.
If I were a consultant to this team I would suggest each team member review the actual assignment that was given and compare it to the completed assignment. Does the contract that they completed have the desired results that they wanted? Why? Why not? What would they change? I would bring the team back together and discuss the comments that were made. I would have the team set up specific goals and objectives to their solutions.

Dawn,
I agree the group should have had a copy of assignment to review as a team. With two weeks to complete the assignment, the group have talked about a strategy on completing the assignment, select a leader, and rescheduled the meeting so they could completely understand the assignment. There was plenty of time to meet a second time and even a third time to work on it. I wouldn't necessarily say they were a low performance I would say they were moderately to low performance.
I agree with the group members were will to conform to the group's decisions without express any concerns of their own. The team showed signs of weakness in group decisions, because some group members fell to conformity pressures. The team thought they were being efficient in making decisions, but they were not effective in their decision making.
I agree with you suggestion as a consultant the team needed to review their assignment. After completing their assignment in the two hours, the team should have scheduled a follow up meeting after the team had time to review the contract and make any additional comments, allowing them time to think about it. Then regroup and discuss any comments the groups may have and then revise the contract as necessary.

The case is about how the team worked well and quickly together. The team thought alike and reached the same conclusions quickly. In times of disagreement they went with the majority vote. The information given to analyze is how the group functioned together,
