CHAPTER ONE

* International legislations on renewable energy

* Significance of International legislations to Nigeria

Chapter one shall introduce renewable energy and its significance to the international community in light of climate change. Some major pieces of legislation which responds to this issue are: the UN Convention On Climate Change, UN conference on Environment and Development, Bali Climate Change Conference 2007,European Emissions Trading Directive 2003 and Copenhagen Accord 2009 would be examined. The relevance of these legislations to Nigeria's energy policy would also be established

CHAPTER TWO:

Renewable Energy Policies in Nigeria

This chapter will review the growth and development of renewable energy in Nigeria, from a generic energy policy through its transformation to include a substantive renewable energy framework. It looks into national programmes on renewable energy, guidelines and policies. Some of which are; Renewable Electricity policy guidelines 2006, National Electric Power Policy and Electric Power Sector Reform Act and National Energy Policy 2005.

CHAPTER THREE:

Challenges facing the development of renewable energy in Nigeria.

This chapter analyzes the practicability of the legislations and stresses the inadequacies of the mechanisms and approach, employed to encourage renewable energy in Nigeria.

CHAPTER FOUR: The law in the UK with respect to polices on Renewable energy would be identified and examined. These include the mechanisms the UK uses to promote renewable energy, the targets set and the obstacles in reaching the targets.

CHAPTER FIVE:

A Comparative Study of Successful Renewable Energy Policies- Lessons Nigeria can learn from the UK.

This chapter seeks to draw comparisons on themes that have worked in the United Kingdom. Lessons and valuable strategies which have been applied in the UK would be applied to Nigeria for an improved legislative policy and implementation.

CHAPTER SIX:

CONCLUSION

This chapter concludes that Nigeria's poor energy supply would be immensely improved if they exploit the diverse energy sources available to them. A major way to achieve this is the development of practical and workable legislations and strategies for Renewable Energy. The present policies in place need improvements for better regulation and implementation.
