Analysis

The Disney Corporation is a great company that motivates its employees in many different ways. Disney not only strives to for current employee retention but to also hire new employees with the talent to enhance the company's creativity. Disney motivates its employees with awards, perks and incentives from stock options to bonuses. The Disney Corporation uses both intrinsic and extrinsic rewards to motivate their present and future employees to do their best.

Motivational Approach

"The essence of Disney's approach to motivation lies in its ability to add a little "magic" to the lives of its employees and Cast Members" (Disney, 2013). There are many perks offered to Disney employees that include daycare centers, park passes, medical benefits, stocks, and achievement awards. There are some perks that are more valuable to some than others such as park passes s for those with large families. The Disney Corporation offers so many perks for its employees that there is something that each person will enjoy.

The Disney Corporation operates by using both intrinsic and extrinsic forms of motivation. They incorporate a unique motivational philosophy by the redefinition of job titles. They refer to the employees as cast members, they wear costumes instead of uniforms and their work areas are referred to as being on stage. This approach supports the philosophy that every day is a show and that Disney is the happiest place on earth. This approach is important because it allows cast members to believe in their worth in the company. By applying its unique terminology it shows that Disney embraces a culture that appreciates its employees and customers.

The Disney Corporation rewards cast members for their years of service starting after their first year of employment then every five years. There is also a nominee program in which up to 50 cast members are chosen to receive awards for excellence. Along with award comes a cloisonné pin given by supervisors. Since the cast members are nominated by its peers it gives them a sense of pride knowing that their co-workers also appreciates them and the work that they do. The company strives to put their employees first with the benefit of improving employee retention. Disney wants to create an environment where its cast members fell at home and a place where future employees want to work. There is a belief that current seasoned employees can offer knowledge to newer employees and that new talent is essential for providing new ideas.

The Disney Corporations recognizes and award its employees/talent with incentives and rewards that are as valuable as their jobs.
