DIFFERENT TYPES OF PERSONALITY

Every human being has a personality that will determine the limits of success. According to Longman dictionary, personality is someone's character, especially the way they behave towards others. It is a combination of emotional, attitudinal, and behavioral response patterns of an individual. Due to different psychological approaches, there are various ways of classifying people into personality types. Based on Carl Jung's theory on "Psychological Types Journal", there are two main dimensions of personality, those are introversion and extroversion.

Introversion and extroversion are very different and contrary to each other. First, they differ in preference. Introversion is a preference to focus on the world inside the self. Introverts, who make up about 25% of the American population, get energy by being alone. They feel that being around people can drain their energy. Basically, they are not attracted to social interactions. Therefore, they prefer to do activities that can be done alone or with a few close friends, such as reading, writing, thinking, and fishing. They also prefer to concentrate on a single activity at a time. It is because they are very detail oriented and independent. On the other hand, extroversion is a preference to focus on the world outside the self. Extroverts, who make up about 75% of the American population, get energy by social interactions. Besides, they feel comfortable to be surrounded by people. That is why they enjoy large social gatherings so much, such as parties, community activities, business or political groups, and public demonstrations.

Second, they also differ in personal characteristic. Introversion is known as a closed personality. Introverts tend to be quiet, shy, and peaceful. They often have trouble remembering names or faces of people whom they have met before. In addition, they like spending time alone and avoiding social interactions. Actually, it is not a sign of depression. They just want to enjoy thinking and exploring their own thoughts and feelings. In contrast to introversion, extroversion is known as an opened personality. Extroverts tend to be self-confident, talkative, enthusiastic, gregarious, friendly, and outgoing. They are also quite good for making new friends. It is because they have ability to make a small talk. It makes them to be more sociable than introverts. Moreover, they enjoy spending time with others because they are very happy to be the center of public attention. For them, being alone is something that must be avoided because it can make them bored easily. They prefer to talk to someone else rather than sit alone and think.

The last, the way they communicate to each other is different. Introversion has the best way to communicate through writing and other non-verbal techniques. Introverts prefer to take time to think and analyze something before they speak and
