Session 1 Professional Self Awareness
In Session 1 I was interested to read, watch and learn about the different Learning styles. The styles outlined visual, auditory and kinaesthetic are all fascinating and I found a little bit of myself in each of the different styles.
Understanding the different learning styles and which apply to myself will make my learning experience easier as the course progresses. Knowing this about myself (broadening my self-awareness) will give me the ability to alter and customise my learning depending on the content of the session. For example, it may be easier for me to understand the Johari window with the diagrams and videos. However, to better learn and understand about self-worth it might be easier for me to learn through listening to inspirational audio clips – or clips explaining the concept further.
This session has been integral in my learning experience it has given me the skills to help customise my learning based on my strengths. I have never really tried to analyse myself in that way before and it has helped to explain why I do certain things in a particular way.
Session 2 Self as Practitioner – Values and Beliefs
Session 2 was thought-provoking and enticed a fair bit of debate and conversation within our household. Getting a better understanding of the connection of beliefs to values to attitudes and behaviours helped me to broaden my understanding of others and the impact that I might have on others.
This session has also given me a better understanding of self. The theory of values was a bit of an eye opener to know that there are so many elements to one’s perceived sense of awareness. It was interesting to see the 4 key quadrants – Openness to change, Self-transcendence, Conservation and Self enhancement. This is a great tool in helping to figure out what is really important to yourself as well as others. If used in the correct manner can be a framework for making better decisions and steering the care given to another in an optimal direction.
Knowing this and understanding this theory and network as a practitioner will help me to find the best way to treat those that come to me for healing.
Session 3 Self as Practitioner – Inner Critic and Inner Coach
There are so many things going on within the brain of an individual. In this session I was able to see the different elements of that – the positive nurturer being the inner coach and the irrational critical self.
There is synergy and connection between all of the lessons thus far, being aware of oneself, understanding the values that make up a person’s belief system connecting it with the inner critic and coach gives us/me a stronger foundation to begin to understand those that approach me in the future for their healing needs.
