Design of Research
Google is a leader in search engines. It has the ability as stated by Cooper & Schindler to predict future trends as well as current trends. This to me can be somewhat intimidating to know that a company is tracking your every keystroke. I guess if you have nothing to hide it not as bad but knowing that your privacy is being invaded but you name is not being used I can't say is all that reassuring. Now with that being said, I think it is useful to someone to know the trends of the world. It would be valuable to many companies and profitable to Google. The profitability is what enables Google to be a free search engine. The video at http://www.google.com/intl/en/zeitgeist/2012/#the-world is inspiring and eye catching. It was full of 2012's biggest events, people, and news.
Ethics in Business Research
As technology has advanced, and the 1990 WWW has taken hold, many researchers have started conducting research online. This virtual research opens up new potentials for companies but with it concerns about maintaining ethical practices and privacy. Elizabeth Buchanan discussed many different aspects to virtual research in the interview.
She voices the importance of conducted virtual research. She feels the same ethical principles apply just the same as if it was a face-to-face. We have rights even when conducting research online. I as well as others want my information remain private. She discusses issues that may happen in virtual research, such as the false perceptions of person, and deception of researchers.
I believe you should have your privacy but do you even know absolutely that your privacy has been protected? No. This can affect business research, if the researchers do not protect privacy or if false reports occur for someone's benefits. Therefore you should always use precaution especially in the virtual world.
