The alchemist is a book about philosophy. Philosophy is the rules that we need to follow in living our life. In another word, it means how to live our life. According to the introduction, it said that every one needs to be aware of their personal calling or their dreams. However, many people don't have the courage to pursue their dream because there are four obstacles which are discouragement, love, fear of defeats and fear of success. First, we grow up with the discouragement since the childhood. Our parents always tell us not to do something or abandon us doing something dangerous. That result we would have some bias in our mind that we may never change the point view about these things even when we grow up. There also comes a time when our personal legend is so deeply buried in our soul as to be invisible. Yet it is still there. Then if we have the courage to pursue our dream, we will be faced by the second obstacle: love. Love can both be obstacles and impetus. The reason to support love being an obstacle is that though sometime we want to make something, we are afraid of hurting those around us by abandoning everything. For example, if we want to do some advanced studies abroad, then certainly we will leave our family and stay alone. It can also be a impetus because it play a role as hope that help people going forward. Once we have accepted that love is a stimulus, here comes the third obstacle: fear of defeats. During the process to the success, there's no doubt that we will suffer a lot and meet a lot of difficulties. To be persistent is the basic way to overcome this problem because the secret of life is to fall seven times and get up eight times. There is no good complaining about the difficulties but paying persistent effort to stick it out. Once we overcome the defeats, we will be filled by a greater sense of euphoria and confidence. After discussing the three obstacles, then I will explain the fourth: fear of success. As the proverb goes "each man kills the thing he loves" and it's totally true. Many times, we may be almost successful or only a step away but we would thought that we do not deserve to get what we want. We forget all the obstacles we overcame, all the efforts we paid, all suffer we endured and all the things we gave up in order to get this far. It is the most dangerous as we may suffer a disastrous decline easily. Having introduced the obstacles we would face during the process of pursuing our dream, the alchemist is a book about philosophy which indicate how to live our lives.
