The community and the societies of the world have always put into practice of punishing people in order for the purpose of restraining the people to commit crimes and wrongs against humanity and the society that they live in. The society has implemented different forms of punishments and given the rights to governments to punish those who does the wrong and commit crimes. Death penalty is one among those punishments which has had a wide debate. There has been wide speculation that death penalty should be allowed or abolished. On the one hand, some argues that it is not a good practice and that the humans do not have the right to take lives of others and on the other hand, people argue that it should be allowed as it will bring fear to those who commit heinous crimes. People also argue that the act of cruelty depends on the actions that one undertakes. According to Melusky (2011), "What is "cruel"? What is "unusual"? It depends. Courts have interpreted and applied these concepts with an eye towards "evolving standards of decency" (p.88). The act of cruelty that is committed against other individual should be punished. People committing grave crimes such as murders should be punished according to the law and should be given the maximum punishment. As such, it should be made mandatory. In this essay there will be three different reasons of why death penalty should be mandatory for murders: Prevents future murders, Justice (Islam), and also it makes people feel safe.
