Dead Poets Society
The movie "Dead Poets Society" directed by Peter Wier, is a movie about an English teacher who uses poetry to inspire his students. The English teacher "John Keating", wants to learn his students that they have to follow their dreams. So a big theme in the movie, is to follow your dreams. If you do not follow your dreams and only do what other people tell you to do, then you cannot live your life properly and you will never be truly happy for what you are doing. Friendship and unity is also a theme in the movie, the boys we follow all goes on the school "Wellton", and they support each other, they also show that they know how to teamwork by reopening the club "Dead Poets Society" and in the end of the movie, they all stand up for Mrs. Keating.
The story takes place at a boarding school for boys, named Wellton, are as the boys refer to it as Hellton. The school is located in the forest away from the city. The boys only see peoples from the school, because they are isolated from society. At the school the boys have nothing to do after their lessons, so they just make their homework and go to bed. The only fun they have is made by them self. The environment is very classy, the boys come from high class families. The parent have high expectation for their sons, they rely on them to get high educations. The atmosphere at the school is very depressed, because the boys don't want to disappoint their parents. They respect their parents so much, that they put their dreams higher, then their own. Not many of the boys are interest in going at Wellton, but their do not have a choice, because their parents make them do it.
Neil is very popular among the other boys, because he has known them for a long time at Wellton. He is a problem solver, and he has his friends respect. Instead of going at Wellton, and become a successful Doctor, his big dream is to be an actor. He lives and breath for acting, but his father want allow it, he want Neil to become a doctor, and he will fight for that, because he has pulled a lot of strings to get Neil in to Wellton. His father thinks Neil is destroying his life by being an actor. Neil relationship with his father is not very good, it is not like a typical father and son relationship, it is more like boss and employed, he is not calling his father by his name, he is calling him sir, because his father is his boss. In the end Neil commit suicide, because his father is shipping him off to a military school, but Neil never felt like he really live. The only time Neil really felt like living, was when he act. He loved acting, but when his father took that away from him, he did not want to live anymore.
The main theme in the movie is to follow your dreams and listen to what you want. Mrs. Keating tries to teach his students to do that through poetry. Mrs. Keating is teaching the students in a total different
