The structure of Micro's organization is flat hierarchical form because (Charles W.L.Hill , Gareth R.Jones, 2008) confirmed that: "with its 30,000 employees and five hierarchical levels, Microsoft has a relatively flat structure". With the Chair Executive Officer (CEO) Steve Ballmer, he has five main managers. Generally, in Microsoft, the number of employees is far more than the number of managers. Therefore this kind of structure makes Microsoft have the narrow span of control. Besides that, Microsoft is known as the company which provides technology products so they focus on this structure. In details, Microsoft divided into 8 divisions: Online Services Division, Server and Tools Business, Microsoft Office Division, Interactive Entertainment Business... (Business, 2011) to meet the customers' demands.
the culture as today of Steve Ballmer is role culture and non-innovative. This is one of many reasons to result in Role is "at the center of the cultural problems was a management system called 'stack ranking" (Eichenwald, 2012), it means the system work is very bureaucratic and not accurately assess the level of employees. This proves that they apply the rules in a rigid way and unreasonable. Besides that, from 10 years ago until now, it is true to say that Microsoft is grow slowly and non-innovative: "it relied mostly on pumping out Old Faithful such as Windows, Office, and servers for its financial performance" (Eichenwald, 2012). The way to administrate of Steve Ballmer is different from Bill Gates. While the former president control companies in the task culture with many innovative goods, Steve does not follow and makes everything become more difficult.
