Cuisine in the College of Business

With the proposed idea of having a food court in the new building, there are many concepts to keep in mind. With the addition of a food court or cafeteria there are many upsides, such as added jobs for students and other members of the community, added foot traffic in the business buildings to promote the degree programs, and also, with food close, there is a higher chance of students staying on campus and attending class. The addition of jobs on campus and the availability of food closer to their classes is bound to be a hit, given the pros of this building and its amenities it could be safe to say that students in the program would be more apt to subject themselves to rate increases and/or tuition rate changes in their programs. If the building goes with a cafeteria-style setting, the College of Business could utilize Hospitality and Restaurant Administration degree students to run the cafeteria and earn credits/work experience in a controlled environment with mentors available to them. These students would provide their fellow peers with a dining experience that was previously inaccessible. However after taking a screening from 50 students from the College of Business, cafeteria-style mess halls are not what they have in mind for the renovation. Students are hoping for a more modern, comfortable and known food providers.

With Missouri State already being an established educational community that has various offerings of food from dormitories to Outtakes to the food court of Plaster Student Union. It would not be difficult to utilize the expertise from these areas. If the proposed idea of food court was implemented over cafeteria style dining, the restaurants that are in the PSU could easily have a second location in Glass Hall. This would make the transition smoother by having already trained employees available to open the new location and to do away with the problems of restaurants being slow or overwhelmed upon opening. This opens up an opportunity for other branches of fast food to become a part of the Missouri State network. There is not currently an option for quick Mexican cuisine on campus and opens an opportunity to ask Taco Bell or Chipotle or Qdoba to become an official part of campus versus their current outskirted locations. In the recent survey of a random selection of 50 College of Business students, they preferred fast-food chains to a snack bar nearly 2:1. See Figure 1. Figure 1

As the day wears on the average college student, lunch (or dinner) is often one of the few rests in their day. After polling 50 College of Business peers, over half of the students wanted a lounge area for their dining experience (Figure 2).

This would not only provide an excellent get away for students who are in very intensive degree programs, but would also promote the development of casual relationships between students which could provide them with knowledge and connections that would have gone unforeseen because in the current version of Glass Hall, the "snack room" is not conducive to conversation and has a very stiff feel to it as if everyone is afraid to disturb one another. With the introduction of a lounge style with music and comfortable seating, there is a hope that students will be more inclined to network with one another and create relationships between degree programs.

Outdoor Seating

This section covers if students would appreciate outdoor seating for recreational use or for the purpose of studying. The data in this section is from students in Missouri State University's College of Business. Our data will be from reputable sources that show if outdoor seating is plausible in a school setting.

The Great Outdoors

Understanding the outdoor atmosphere would help us understand if people would like sitting outside. There are so many reasons as to why people enjoy being outside; fresh air for one is a very popular reason. The smell of outside is completely different than that of being inside. Being outside gives you a sense of freedom and you are not confined in surrounding walls. Also, if it is sunny, you can enjoy the sunshine and get a little tan.

Of course there are many reasons why people don't enjoy being outside for obvious reasons like snow or rain. If the outside property isn't well maintained and there is trash all over, it will make the appeal of outside to be less attractive.

Sitting Areas

The College of Business has very little outdoor sitting around Glass hall or any other buildings. There is a place for people to gather and sit around the tables in front of PSU, but besides that, there are not may other places to enjoy the fresh air. A bus station or a bench in the middle of a heavy walking area does not qualify as a sitting area. Yes, those benches and chairs may come in handy when waiting for the bus or waiting for a friend, but they would be difficult to get some homework done on them.

What qualifies an outside seating area is the atmosphere, chairs, tables, and proper placing of the them. To have a successful ranking sitting area, a university must have both chairs and tables within the appropriate approximation within each other. Also, a sitting area must not be placed in a heavy walking area, because one cannot study or chat with friends because of all the distractions around them. Lastly, every area of the collage should have a great atmosphere, but a sitting area should have the upmost cleanness of all so students can enjoy the sitting area.

Outdoor Seating Survey

The students at Missouri State University have participated in a survey that asked if they would utilize outdoor seating if it were available. According to the results at Missouri State 35 students said yes, they would utilize the outdoor seating area, while 15 students said no. That shows that 70% of students would prefer to have outdoor seating.

Underground Parking

With the development of the economy, cars are more affordable for families and students. In order to supply enough space for students coming to school, we need a new extended parking lot. As you may know, every piece of land costs quite a bit of money on campus. As to save land for more valuable using, it's better to establish an underground parking space. Also, the underground parking garage can be environmental friendly and can save land. Currently, the underground parking lot has been used in most of the big cities and central business districts. In some metropolis such as Paris and New York, more than half of the vehicles are parking in an underground parking
