Dear diary,
Today something funny happened. I saw a letter at my desk from a demon named Screwtape. At first I thought it was a prank but after reading the letter thoroughly a couple of times I am starting to believe that it may be real. The letter was by a higher demon to a lower demon named Wormwood and I think he dropped the letter on my table by mistake. The letter basically revolves around human thinking and how sometimes their thoughts are restricted by materialistic things. Screwtape believes that by brainwashing people to restrict them on materialistic entities, they would never question the beliefs against/in favor of the belief in a higher entity that created everything. He believes that arguments and debate can change his mind into believing something he previously didn't but if he doesn't even have time to argue, there wouldn't be a counter argument. As Screwtape states, natural sciences sometimes lead people to believe that the creation of everything wasn't a coincidence and somebody created it. I think he is right. When people study scientific theories their mind drift into untouchable and non-seeable. Whereas on the other hand social sciences study human behavior. And when someone ponders about them, they will still roam the materialistic or human realm. I don't know about the authenticity of his incident about his patient who used to read in British museum, but the idea behind it seems real. A single thought creates a chain of thoughts and leads us to believe something and sometimes a single thought transforms into a thought totally different. But some of his ideas are flawed. People always interact with each other and even if they restrict their thoughts to materialistic things, they can be intrigued by other's ideas and believe something they previously didn't. People rely on each other. Screwtape says everything as if everybody lives without being in touch with anybody and the only influence upon them is his and the other side's. And even if it is true, the media nowadays plays a very important role in influencing people. Someone's mind can be restricted but cannot be imprisoned to only a bunch of thoughts. Human think and wonder, and that's the distinctive feature that separate them from animals. One can spend his entire life believing one thing but there are times when even a single thought or idea can change the lens through which we perceive the world.
