GREEN TECHNOLOGY AS CSR PROJECT
Our company that is Asfi Design has been operating as architecture company since 2002. We own one office building which is located at Kota Damansara, Selangor. This building are being use to operate our company. The buildings we use are the same as any other buildings in Malaysia which only uses ordinary building material and structure.
Our buildings had been structured as a building that has a mirror as their exterior wall. Structures of this kind are made to our building as well as other company building due to the fact that, this structure of building can made them more high end with exclusive appearance and it will shows that the building have a modern design.
The condition of the buildings that we use has an impact on the environment. As all known, the existence of a mirrored building will cause heat pollution. When a mirror are used as the building wall, temperatures exacerbate the surrounding area. This in turn will make the surrounding temperature of the area increase tremendously. Thus, the use of air conditioner will increase and the production of carbon dioxide will also increase. This is due to the fact that, the mirror that serves as the wall will absorb and reflect heat into the atmosphere and then heating the ambient temperature.
Besides, other than physical appearance of the building, the system in the building also can affect the environment. For example, most of our buildings use the electric energy. In Malaysia, a study by UTM in the year 2010 projected emissions of Carbon Dioxide in the country reached 285.73 million tonnes compare to 187 million tonnes in 2006. It is shown that 43.4 percent from the emissions was due to the energy industry. Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA) said that the peak demand of electricity to Peninsular Malaysia reach 15,476MW in May 2011, an increase of 2.7 percent compared to the previous year. This is why WWF Australia had conduct the first earth hour on 2007. Earth hour is made to bring awareness that all of us care about our environment.
As a solution to this problem, Asfi Design can change the structure of the building and making it more eco-friendly. By investing some of Ringgit, we can change our building and making it more efficient. According to the U.S. Green Building Council, they said that green building is a building that healthier, more comfortable, more durable and more energy efficient and have a much smaller environmental footprint than conventional homes.
In order to solve this problem, we have taken the initiative to renovate the office building by applying solar energy to our building. The sun powers natural cycles such as the wind and water flow, and helps sustain life on the planet which is plant growth. The sun is also a source of heat and light which is often taken for granted. Today, we are able to harness the sun's energy and use it to help heat our buildings, our water and to produce electricity for our buildings. Other than that, the building will also decrease the production of carbon dioxide because the use of air conditioner can be limited.
Although the cost of applying solar energy to our building is expensive, but if we think forward about 50 years to come it can help us to save our planet and ensure future generation able to enjoy our mother earth. Many country had apply this solar energy and the result are convincing. In Seattle, The Bullitt Center is consider the world greenest office building in the world. 100% onsite renewable energy, water and waste management, as well as a safe, naturally day-lit and ventilated work environment built to last 250 years. It was built by the Bullitt Foundation, a non-profit group based in Seattle that focuses on urban ecology. The foundation will be a tenant, occupying half of one floor in the six story building, with additional commercial tenants occupying the rest of the building.
