I think that the price and quality strongly influence the perception of the product by the customer. If I had to choose one it would be that producers are driven by cost. On store shelves very easy to compare prices, it is very easy criterion for most customers who are not foodies wines. Technology of forecasting can help cork industry in few ways. If producer in the cork industry would have done technology forecasting earlier them competitors then could invest in research and improve technical process, to develop cork closures and the result will be faster production witch lower cost, before any of the competitors could have done so. Other advantages may be saving energy or raw materials
5. What level of R&D investment would be required to help the industry diversifi and develop new opportunities for its materials?
In the case of big influence that cork forests have on environment and to not cause negative emotions, there would be reqiure high level of R&D investmens to find new opportunities for cork matirials. New opportunities means new products. As biodegradable and eco-frienndly material cork might be a some kind of cover for everyday objects, for example pots and cups, plates and baking dishes, coasters (it will save our furnitures from danger of damage, caused by hot items), but it might be used as well as a floor and wall coverings, cork board sheets, cases for glasses, keychains and a lot more. Open-minded way of thinking about new areas for use cork will definitely increase growth reguest for this material and what's after that, will ensure growth of companies from this segment.
6. What portfolio of R&D projects would you establish for the cork industry?
I think that a good idea would be to find and focus on a different possible objects, not just only wine closures. New products made from cork will give them new areas to expand and increase production.
They have to remember that cork forests have a big influence on a local environment. Thanks them we can save some endanger species and stay green, by reducing pollution and changing CO2 to oxygene.
