The Comparison of Literature
In the article "The New Literacy," Clive Thompson writes about how writing changed over the years. He compares writing from the past to the present using some evidence from Andrea Lundsford. Thompson also states that in the past, people wouldn't write unless it had something to do with employment, business, or education. The article also mentions that people learned to love writing more than they used to, especially when it came to having an audience. Lundsford has done research on how the new technology gained people's knowledge for writing. In some cases, they thought technologies like laptops and mobile phones would decrease or have the present day writing not as efficient. That was false. Things like Facebook, Twitter, blogs, texting, etc. have not only improved writing, but also increased modern day literature. In conclusion, the new generation notice who and what they are writing for are more important, which increases the efficiency of new literacy.
I believe social networking writing is a form of literacy because it contains a lot of dialog; it expands critical thinking, and has people use literature more often. There are billions of people who go online daily using all forms of literature. Using social networks leads to minds communicating while expanding all kinds of vocabulary to create a sentence that sounds accurate. It may not always have great spelling and grammar, but it takes critical thinking to expand one's knowledge. There are a few that have difficulties to draw conclusions, but if mankind think about it, they do it all time after speaking their minds. Therefore, I believe the human brain expands with literature while using new technology for communication.
