Comparing Ralph and Piggy

Will being stubborn have an effect on Ralph or Jack? Jack was compelled to hunting pigs and let the signal fire
burn out, making them lose their possibility of getting rescued. Ralph's idea of making a fire as a signal to get rescued
worked even when he was running for his life. Ralph and Jack are always opposing each other, but always want what is
best for the boys. They both have leadership qualities and are similar in age and size. Being civil will have an impact on
how the boys see them.
Ralph approaches situations in a civil manner. Whereas Jack, is vicious and ferocious. Jack hunts and provides
food for all the boys to eat. Ralph makes rules, keeps an orderly system and builds shelters. When Jack and the choir let
the fire burn out, Ralph yelled at them and lectured them. Piggy got slapped by Jack so hard that his glasses cracked
because Piggy annoyed Jack. Jack was irritated with Ralph when he was elected as chief so to placate Jack; Ralph
allowed him and the choir to be hunters. . Jack does not have any sensitivity in him; he wanted to beat kids for no
reason. For instance Robert said "He's going to beat Wilfred ... He didn't say why. He got angry and made us tie Wilfred
up." (Golding. 196) Nevertheless, Ralph and Jack want what is best for the boys.
Both Jack and Ralph are really similar but have a completely different way of thinking. They want to kill the beast
and provide for boys. Ralph and Jack are similar in size and age, they are both physically strong, and are the oldest
compared to the other boys. Jack thinks the boys would rather have meat than to be rescued, he thinks more for
himself than for others. Ralph on the other hand wants to be rescued. For the sake of the other boys, he did not want
the other boys to suffer from diarrhea or fear the beast. The beast even said "There isn't anyone to help you. Only me.
And I'm the beast."(Golding. 177) Perhaps being violent can be beneficial in cases like this.
Jack and Ralph have the potential of being a chief. Ralph is democratic and gives the boys a voice. He even made
a rule "I'll give the conch to the next person to speak... And he won't be interrupted." (Golding. 43-44) Ralph leads in a
