Title: Comparative Study on the Common Stressors and Stress Management among the Faculty Members of STI-Tagaytay

This study was designed to determine the different stressors encountered by the faculty members of STI - Tagaytay and how they manage their stress. Specifically, it sought to answer the following questions.

* What is the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of age, gender, civil status, highest educational attainment, and years of teaching?

* What are the physical and emotional stressors encountered by the faculty members of OC-T?

* Which of the following departments experience more stress?

Department of Arts and Sciences and Education

Department of Business, Hospitality Management and Computer Technology

College of Nursing

* What are different ways used by the faculty members to manage their stress in terms of physical and emotional management.

* Is there a significant difference among the stressors and stress management program of the different departments of STI College-Tagaytay?

Based from the data gathered, analyzed and interpreted, several findings were revealed: The age brackets of the faculty members of STI College - Tagaytay range from 21-25, 26-30, 31-35, 36-40, 41-45, 46-50, 51-55, & 56-60. There are 20 female and 11 male faculty members. The civil status of the faculty members vary from single, married to widowed. Based on the age brackets, there are only few faculty members who have been in the teaching profession for more than 5 years. Many faculty members achieved a college degree mainly for their field of expertise. There are 3 departments in Olivarez College -Tagaytay namely: Department of Business, Hospitality Management & Computer Technology, Department of Arts and Sciences and, College of Nursing. Having a complex profession, faculty members of the College of Nursing are experiencing more physical & emotional stress than the two other departments while the Department of Business, Hospitality Management & Computer Technology has the higher effectivity of applying their stress management in both physical & emotional stress. And there is no significant difference among the stress and stress management program of the different departments of STI College Tagaytay.

Based on the above mentioned findings of this study, most of the respondents are at 31 to 35 years old. Most of them are female and have a length of service for less than 5 years. The student indiscipline is the most physically stressful factor for both the Department of Business, Hospitality Management and Computer Technology and College of Nursing. The most emotional stressful factor for the faculty members of Department of Arts and Sciences and Education is lack of recognition for good work; while conflicts between co-teachers is for the Department of Business, Hospitality Management and Computer Technology and College of Nursing. The most physically challenging stress management for the faculty members of Department of Arts and Sciences and Education, Department of Business, Hospitality Management and Computer Technology and College of Nursing is time management. The mostly used stress management related to emotion for the faculty members of Department of Arts and Sciences and Education is having an artistic expression or taking a hobby while Department of Business, Hospitality Management and Computer Technology and College of Nursing is having positive thoughts. There are no significant differences between the stressful situations encountered by the faculty members of STI College-Tagaytay and their management practices, wherein, they would be able to test their coping mechanism to deal with stress in their positive or negative situations.

Based from the summary of the findings and conclusions arrived, recommendations are hereby made. Having a pleasant-sounding rapport with the people around you is important. They become the support group for everyone and the one whom you can asks help. Maintaining good relationship with one another creates a better atmosphere that will be benefit one another. Being a teacher, there is an obligation for you to make every day. It is to make sure that your students learn and appreciate lessons. But sometimes, many students demonstrate disobediences and loudness. Experiencing it, you must extend your innermost patience. Long working hours is definitely part of your profession. To lessen the effect of it, scheduling your topics and subdivided it into parts that can only fit into your schedule every time you teach will result to much better improvement. Heavy workload is another issue you should manage. Think it up as a big challenge and a good favor for you, because the many units/loads you have as a teacher, it means that your administrator trusts you so much and know that you are so capable enough to educate your students. Being in a workplace full of competencies, there is a possibility of having conflicts with your co-teachers, in able to avoid such circumstances, having an open communication and relationship to one another can create a harmonious environment. Initiating conversations when having break time or rest time is one step towards good relationship. Increase your patience and focus on good work so that all your efforts can be best seen with the performance of your students. Proper prioritization, scheduling of activities and knowing limitations of work is another attitude you must possess to lessen up the effects of stress in you. Divert all your stress and unpleasant experiences into something motivating and attention-grabbing. Getting a hobby is common to all of us. Expressing yourself artistically is an ideal way to express how you feel. Making poems, drawings or designing crafts can definitely make you satisfy. The faculty members should continue the stress management practices they know as well as loving and developing further their profession so as to satisfy their way of living and to lessen the risk of stressful situations. Be open-minded to changes that will arise and actively cope and make actions about them.
