Cloud computing allows companies to rely more on telework, remote work, and distributed decision making (Laudon & Laudon, 2011, p. 8). Cloud computing allows users to use files and applications over the internet. In cloud computing, a central server administers the system, monitors traffic and client demands to ensure everything runs smoothly.
Cloud computing is a model for enabling convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources (such as networks, servers, storage, applications, and services) that can be quickly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction (Garrison, Kim, & Wakefield, 2012, p. 62). Cloud computing allows users to save money on purchasing software and hardware by utilizing Cloud computing. Users are able to access their information at their convenience, wherever they are, as long as they have internet access. This is a great way to store data and access it no matter where you may be.
Majority of people are using Cloud computing today and might not realize it. Gmail, Hotmail, Skype or YouTube, these are some popular examples of Cloud computing. Some of the advantages of adopting this system would be lower cost required for data processing services and maintaining software, multiple users can access the software from anywhere that they have an internet connection, a physical storage is no longer needed, easily scalable so companies can add or subtract resources based on their own needs, and affordable pay structures that many include payment for only when utilized ("What Do You Need," 2011). Some of the disadvantages would be less control when it comes to handing over your data and information, dependence on a third party to ensure security and confidentiality of data and information and long-term dependence on cloud host for maintenance of your information ("What Do You Need," 2011).
