All the warnings and signs were there. The climate is changing drastically in different regions of the Earth. Natural disasters, floods, and many others signaled that Earth is approaching a tipping point environmentally. The fact that climate change is an exponential kind of problem is what scares scientists mosts. This essay will discuss ecological, climatological, moral, social and political tipping points and the various problem created by human’s actions . Though climate change may not seem as dire and urgent as it really is, actions must be taken to preserve our beautiful planet.

Everyone knows that carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas. An increase in CO2 means an increase in temperature. This increase in CO2 results in several ecological and climatological tipping points. Today, there are three major ecological tipping points. The Arctic ice cap, one of the three major ecological tipping points, is like a mirror that reflects and prevents the sun from overheating us. However, due to an increase in CO2, the arctic cap is melting which means a warmer planet or so-called climate change. Arctic methane, another major ecological tipping point, results in even worse climate change. Methane gas, approximately 50 times more toxic than CO2, is being released into the atmosphere due to the warm climate. The release of methane gas increases the temperature of the planet tremendously and results in an extremely warm planet. CO2 in the atmosphere does not solely affect humans, it affects other organisms too. Ocean acidification, another tipping point, is an increase in acid in the ocean. As the ocean becomes more acidic, plankton and many other organisms in the ocean can’t survive. Therefore, the whole ocean’s ecosystem is dead. The arctic cap, arctic methane, and ocean acidification are three major examples of ecological and climatological tipping point. These tipping points which have become such a huge problem definitely raises concerns morally, socially, and politically.

What can people do about these problems? Or do the people even know that these problems exist? Some are aware of these tipping points and are trying to make a change. Others are aware but doubt the seriousness of climate change. Most people, in my opinion, think that climate change is not urgent mainly because they have not felt the impact yet. Once they feel the impact, it is already too late to take actions. Most refuse to take actions because others around are not taking any actions. The online movements intended to improve the planet are soon going offline becoming a social tipping point.

The main reason that there is a social tipping point is because climate change impacts everyone differently. Some are being impacted more than others. Those destroyed by natural disasters are usually poor. For example, people in Nepal or Indonesia are often being destroyed by natural disasters. It takes these poor countries years to rebuild their country. What’s
