Cleopatra VII was the last pharaoh of Egypt of the Macedonian dynasty who ruled from the capital city of Alexandria. Her family ruled Egypt for more than 100 years before she was born. Cleopatra VII was an intelligent pharaoh whom manipulated the people she needed in her life to get what she wanted. However modern sources indicate that she used her beauty, cunning, sexuality and powers of persuasion to entice two of the most powerful men to keep her powerful empire free of Roman control. This last pharaoh of Egypt was born around 69BC. This line of rule was established in 323BC. She died on the 12th of August 30BC and ruled Egypt from 51BC- 30BC.
The era began when Ptolemy, took over as a ruler of Egypt becoming King Ptolemy I. Cleopatra helped to stabilize Egypt in a time of war and was also the last of the Greek Ptolemy's to rule Egypt. Julius Caesar intervened in an Egyptian civil war to support Cleopatra as a ruler. She was also the first Ptolemy to know 9 different languages these include Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Syrian, Hebrew, Ethiopian, Persian, Aramaic and Arabic. She was known for her beauty and intelligence. Eventually Cleopatra became a sole ruler. She began a relationship with Julius Caesar to take revenge on Ptolemy XIII and to protect Egypt from being conquered by the Romans. She later gave birth to a son named Caesarion this means "little ruler" so he could co-rule with her. Julius Caesar had died in 44BC, and after his death Cleopatra began a relationship with Mark Antony so that their children could overtake Julius Caesar's heir.
Caesarion, who was declared pharaoh by his supporters was soon killed on Octavian's orders. Cleopatra's 3 children were spared and taken back to Rome of where they were taken care of by Octavia Minor whom was Antony's wife.
