Childhood Obesity

Recently, childhood obesity has become a real concern throughout the world. Obesity means being so overweight in a way that harms the health. It has increased in a very high rate in the last two and three decades. Also, it is a major concern because of its effects on health; such as heart diseases, type II diabetes and cancers. The main concern of this essay is to examine the problem of childhood obesity and then look at two possible solutions.
Childhood obesity, a real concern nowadays, has increased because of many reasons. The main causes of childhood obesity are too little activities, too much of wrong types of food and, with the development of the technology, satellite television. Those causes are somehow related to each other. For instance, kids between (8 - 16) years old are spending more time on TV, and this is leading to less physical activity, that results in obesity. Furthermore, schools nowadays are focusing mostly on the academic work more than physical activities, so they schedule their timetable depending on that, and as a result, that will lead to obesity (Torgan, 2002). Although, obese children are endanger of having a high blood pressure and high cholesterol which can cause a heart diseases. Also, these children are facing the dangers of type II diabetes and bone problems. Moreover, obese children are mostly low self-esteem, shy, depressed, angry and stressful (KidsHealth, n.d.).
Increasing the time spent on doing physical activities would be a tremendous solution for this problem. To go on with this solution, parents should embolden their children to play more sports, do more exercises and physical activities. Also, they have to limit the time that children spend on watching TV and playing video games. There is another way to make this solution succeed which is to re-introduce sports activities in schools timetables. Moreover, parents should try their best to involve their children in some kind of sports and fitness clubs (Torgan, 2002).
Another possible solution for this problem would be having diet and good eating habits. To work on with this solution, parents should eliminate the junk and fast food, and provide healthy snakes and meals to their children. Also, parents should teach and offer nutritious food to the children since they are young, because children always carry the habits with them for the rest of their lives. Moreover, junk food, with high fats and sugars such as potato chips and fizzy drinks, should be forbidden for the children, and instead of those types of food, parents should provide healthy food and unsweetened drinks to their kids (KidsHealth, n.d.).
This essay has examine the problem of childhood obesity and then looked at two possible solutions. To sum up, childhood obesity is a major concern because of its effects on the human.
