Rocky is a 16 year old, American Indian, male, currently a freshman in high school. He was referred to the alcohol and drug treatment facility by the ER due to the neurological symptomatology presented while in the hospital's care. He was reportedly found "looking dead" in his backyard hammock and appears lethargic and unresponsive. Rocky exhibits poor motor function, and appears to slur his words. It is also noted that his eyes looked glazed and unfocused. Rocky sat in a slumped position on the couch, drooling, and was noted to carry an odor reminiscent of turpentine. When moving from the couch to the assessment room, Rocky appeared somewhat disoriented and was helped to his feet by his parents before stumbling into the therapist's office.
A Mini Mental Status Exam it revealed that Rocky seemed to be experiencing cognitive impairment (especially within short term memory) and significant disorientation.
His parents report that Rocky has been skipping school and "hanging out with bad kids". They suspect that he had been smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol. They also expressed suspicion that he may be involved in property defacement around the reservation, through graffiti. They based this after they found an empty spray paint bottle in his room. Rocky's mother also stated that lately Rocky has been involved in fights, is commonly confused, and "hasn't wanted to do nothin'." She insisted that his behavior is unusual and started almost a year ago. Rocky insists that he is not participating in any illegal activity and that his actions and behavior are just for fun. Rocky reported that he does not use cocaine or marijuana, take pills, or "shoot up."
