2 kinds of experience: primary experience (empirical data of sensation) & secondary experience (reflected data of conciousness).
MEMORY
Another pre-requisite for knowledge is memory; without memory, what we experience cannot become knowledge.
On the other hand, memory presupposes experience; our sense-experience is the source and reference for our memory.
Our daily lives cannot go well without memory ; weak memory disturbs our daily lives and has unfavorable effect on our pursuit of knowledge.
What's more, memory is malleable-and it tends to decay with age. So stay sharp by reading our articles on the riddles of recollection!
TESTYMONY
Testimony = the assertion of something as true by a witness and proposed to someone for belief. In philosophy, a testimony is known as statements that are based on personal experience or personal knowledge. A statement is accepted on the basis of person's testimony if his or her asserting it renders it acceptable
Belief = accepting something on faith or trust in the authority of the one testiying. Epistemology is the philosophical study of knowledge and belief. The primary problem in epistemology is to understand exactly what is needed in order for us to have true knowledge. In a notion derived from Plato's dialogue Theaetetus, philosophy has traditionally defined knowledge as "justified true belief". The relationship between belief and knowledge is that a belief is knowledge if the belief is true, and if the believer has a justification (reasonable and necessarily plausible assertions/evidence/guidance) for believing it is true.
REASON & REASONING
In order to understand what one experiences, one has to use his/her reason to think about it.
Cognitive activity in oder to know, master, & develop what one has known cannot be done without developing the habit of active and critical thinking.
A constant search for new knowledge, mastering it, and applying it in facing human problems, must cultivate the habit of active, critical and responsible thinking among the students.
They also need to be trained to think logically, creatively and innovatively.
Reasoning = a process of logical thinking; how to derive conclusion (new knowledge) from previously known premises.
COGNITIVE INTEREST & A SENSE COURIOSITY
Not all experience turns into knowledge.
The search for knowledge also requires cognitive interest & a sense of curiosity on the part of subject knower.
