In the movie Casablanca there is a very unique love triangle between Ilsa, Rick, and Victor ,but I believe that Ilsa made the right choice by staying with Victor. My reasons for this are that she loved Victor, she knew that Victor needed her more then Rick, and also because she knew that she was in love with the thought of being with Rick in not in love with Rick.
Although to some Ilsa is viewed as a promiscuous women. Put yourself in her shoes if someone you loved just disappeared and you didn't here or see them in awhile. Loneliness will soon settle in and the thought of being alone will drive you crazy. Ilsa loved Victor in fact the only reason Ilsa ended up having relations with Rick was because she didn't know if Victor was alive or dead. Now just the thought of that will drive people to do some crazy things like finding someone to fill that void in your heart. In my eyes thats all Ilsa was trying to do when she was spending time with Rick in Paris.
On the other hand, Ilsa knew that Victor needed her more then Rick and thats why its obvious to me that she made the decision to stay with Victor. For instance, when Ilsa was getting ready to leave Pairs with Rick and her friend told her that they had found Victor. At that very moment Ilsa stopped everything that she was doing and ran to his rescue. That goes to show you how much Ilsa loved and cared for Victor. From someone to tell you that the person you are married to is in trouble and they need your help and you push your personal emotions aside and do whats right.
Never the less when it comes to Ilsa and Rick and there relationship it blossomed out of pure lust and loneliness. Ilsa was lost and in need of someone to love her thats why I believe that Ilsa was in love with the thought of being with Rick and wasn't in love with Rick. For example when Rick asked Ilsa what she thinks about marriage and them getting married . Ilsa just stared off into space and didn't even pay any attention to what Rick was talking about. Moments like this lets me know that Ilsa was in love with the time, conversation, and happy moments they shared together and not emotionally in love with Rick.
Having a strong partnership with someone has to be the most important when it comes to having a meaningful relationship. Throughout the movie, Ilsa and Rick never really establish a strong partnership with each other one can only assume that the two of them knew it would never work. A great example of this is in the end of the movie Rick says "Inside we both know that you belong with Victor, if you stay you'll regret it maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow but soon and for the rest of your life." It's obvious from that point that the two of them knew they wouldn't work well as partners or in a relationship.
In conclusion some of Ilsa choices wasn't some of the smartest or the brightest. However she did what made her happy and
