1. Introduction
1.1 Background
Recently, the student canteen on campus has received unfavorable reviews of the catering and environment, which has triggered much concern. Therefore, an investigation was assigned by the Course Leader to probe into potential improvements.
1.2 Purpose
The purpose of this report is to shed light on the reasons for students' dissatisfaction with the catering and environment based on the evaluation of the previous dining experience at the student canteen.
1.3 Scope
The report examines the overview of the dining experience to explore the undesirable aspects for improvement. There are, however, a few limitations to be acknowledged besides the small sample size. The two canteens of SIFT are considered as a whole, with their difference overlooked. Furthermore, due to the stress of the end of the semester, many respondents are a little reluctant to take time to complete the questionnaire, which indicates a biased data.
2. Method
The research was conducted via a structured and standardized questionnaire (See Appendix A for the questionnaire). The questionnaires were administered randomly to forty students on campus. Consequently, a quantitative measure was employed to the later analysis of the data collected. The participants were well informed of the confidentiality and the long-term benefit of the information provided.
3. Findings and Analysis
In general, the student canteen suffers unpopularity, with only one-tenth of the participants choosing it at a high frequency. Meanwhile, over 30 respondents insist that improvements are expected on both catering and environment.
3.1 Catering
3.1.1 Food Itself
Despite the well-behaved performance of flavor and freshness, much of the disappointment is due to the lack of variety (See Appendix B). In the terms of poor heat preservation and quantity, merely 10 supporters for each tick the satisfaction option, which reflects that rapid heat loss and insufficient quantity supplied depress the students. Meanwhile, up to 25 informants are discontent with nutrition, which indicates that the canteen fails to meet the increasing demand for nutrition. Therefore, several problems exist on food alone.
3.1.2 Forms
As for the presenting form of catering, nearly four-fifths of the repliers show their preference to the free choice style rather than other two alternatives. People share a common willingness to make their own decision. Thus, this free choice, a dominant form at present, is generally appreciated.
