There are a myriad of opportunities for growth in emerging markets and in particular the BRICs. As a multinational corporate manager those opportunities need to be researched and analyzed as possible investment opportunities. The global economic crisis served to disburse the wealth across the world, as many traditional economies shrunk, while emerging markets continued to grow. The resources and capital that have become available are significant, as countries such as China and India fully enter into the global marketplace. As income per capita increases in the BRIC economies, the market grows for various consumer products that are now affordable for a growing number of individuals. The economic growth taking place in the BRICs does not necessarily indicate heightened purchasing power for all citizens, as emerging markets still have widespread poverty and an uneven distribution of income. As a corporate manager it is valuable to analyze the markets you are entering and determine if the investment will result in positive consumer growth.
This closing case on the BRIC countries is a perfect supplementary example to go along with chapter 4 because it perfectly points out many of the important points of the chapter. Using the knowledge in chapter 4 along with the facts from the case, it can be proven that by doing research on another country's specific attributes can lead a business to either move into that country or stay out depending on its findings. Also, if a business were to go into another country, it will then have to determine how it will use the resources of that country to its advantage and make ethical decisions on how to incorporate those assets into its own infrastructure.
