Who’s at risk for breast Cancer? Breast cancer affects both woman and men however, it is the most common type of cancer among women. Every 13 minutes a women dies of breast cancer. The diagnosis of breast cancer creates emotional distress for patients as well as family members. Throughout the years breast cancer awareness has become more present in our everyday lives. There is hardly a day that goes by without seeing an ad in a magazine, a commercial, or article in the newspaper that is urging women to be aware of the warning signs and diagnosis of breast cancer. As awareness rises, women are learning what we can do to fight against this illness that affects so many in the world we live in today.

Many men do not understand how it is possible to get breast cancer. Even though women are more susceptible to get breast cancer that does not stop men from getting it. Overall, men have a 10% chance of getting breast cancer. About 2,360 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in men year 2014 and 430 of those men will die. The average ages of men that are diagnosed with the diseased are 69 years old. Many men are puzzled about the risk factors. The heavy intakes of alcohol and radiation exposure are two of the many risk factors. It is also more likely for men to get breast cancer if there are a large number of females in his family that have this disease. The same symptoms of the disease are both the same symptoms that women have. Nipple inversions, lumps in the breast, nipple discharge (which could be bloody), weakness, or even weight loss are a few of the symptoms known. (CDC 1)

Estimates show there will be about 232,670 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in woman. About 40,000 woman will die from breast cancer in 2014. A woman should do a self-examination by the age of twenty. A woman should place a pillow behind her head along with her right hand using her left hand to use the same method as one does in the shower. After that lower the right arm slightly and with the hand, check the right underarm. This procedure helps check for lumps, knots or thickenings. Repeat once more on the other side using the same procedures. A woman should check for other significant symptoms like a bloody discharge from the nipple, change in the size of the breast, peeling of the nipple skin, inverted nipple, or redness over the breast. All women over the age of twenty years should perform self-examinations every month one’s breasts every month one should perform self-examinations every month. By examining one’s breast every month one would be alert if there are changes in the breast that are not ordinary. (NBC 5)

Breast Cancer is not something you get. “We already have cancer cells growing inside us.” (Professor Jackson) If these breast tissue cells start to split and they continue to divide without cellular control, it can develop into what we know as breast cancer. Many cancer cells form by a prior cancer cell dividing and creating two cancer cell. In a normal cell, molecules called ATP (adenosine triphosphate) provide the energy of the cell. ATP molecules are created inside the mitochondria
