BOLLYWOOD
Bollywood is a term that has only within the last decade became well known in the western culture, yet it has been around for quite a long time. My preconceived notion of what the term Bollywood meant was that it was an 'Indian version of 'Hollywood'. So often, it is the case that this term be associated with 'Hollywood'. Throughout this essay I will attempt to discuss how I have come to understand what the term Bollywood is really supposed to mean. Learning the different Bollywood dance moves, has also been quite a physical and mental challenge which experience which I will share as well. The interesting that about Bollywood dance moves is that it can be performed in such a way that it can be filmed. There is great detail in the dance itself; the hand gestures all symbolise something and the facial expressions are capturing as they help to convey the story.
What does the term Bollywood mean to you?
To give one definition of what the term Bollywood means would be extremely difficult because this term incorporates so many different ideas and elements. People generally have their own idea and perception on what Bollywood means to them. Bollywood is a hybrid-style of dancing used in the Indian film-making industry and it incorporates a mixture of different dance styles. There is no one set dance to Bollywood, but a mixture of western dancing, modern dancing, Jazz, folk, classical and so forth. In my opinion, Bollywood is an artsy expression and celebration of the Indian culture, through the film and entertainment industry. Dancing is one way of expression.
