Black Good?
Black is what I like. Black is how I like my men; okay, I like my men chocolate. What is black? A dark shadow that can covers a room? Is black the sky after the sun goes down? Is black something that everyone should be scared of? Thinking black is bad, makes it seem bad, when in all reality it isn’t. Growing up as a child I hated being black. I didn’t like the fact that other races thought that all black people like fried chicken and that we’re always late. Why did we always have to be labeled as something? I’m NOT a stereotype and I’m damn sure not a container of last night’s leftovers. That's when I considered myself to be African American, but now I’m black. Black is good. Good to me.
In the 1940’s, Kenneth and Mamie Clark designed a psychology study called Brown to 60: The Doll Test. Drs. Clark used four dolls, all the same to study the children’s racial perceptions of black and white. Basically to see which race was more popular. Majority of the children picked white. The psychologists that did this study were also black. From an undergraduate psychology major, in my opinion white people are terrible. Black people were ashamed to be black because of how they were treated. White people go through the front door, while black people go through the back. White people had an education that a “scholar” would have, while black people had the lowest education they could get. Somehow these white people still couldn’t make it to the moon without the help of multiple BLACK WOMEN.
Dr. Martin Luther King was a good man. In fact, Dr. King was good to everyone. He was the one that helped us African Americans yet better known as “black” fight for what we deserved as people. We have earned our right to be equal. Black is equal. Should we be scared of white? No I’m not talking about the color of cotton white, I’m talking about the people. Whereas they beat, raped, killed, and torched black folks. Who would you truly consider the bad guy here? Black is what made our country; furthermore, we was the slaves. The white people never worked as hard as we did. They were the privileged people, white was what was good.
From reading “That Word Black” by Langston Hughes, I’ve learned that black isn’t so criminal after all. I am black, and that’s something you can’t take from me, I have these jet black curls that are luscious. What is nappy because it doesn’t apply to me? I am not ashamed. I am black and I am proud to be so. I know that I am a part of a great history. I have learned about my black culture. Black is what “flipped the switch for America.” Now in America we have a white president. A tweeting, fathead, old tart for a president. A man who said if he wins he might not be president, he took America as a joke. Is this white man labeled bad? I never understood why some of my people believe that white people are the devil, I never really saw that they put others races through so much shit. White is dangerous, dangerous to our society.
