Elaine Cunningham is a story based on accurate dates and events in the life of Billy Sunday from the ballpark to the pulpit a book of 108 pages

Billy Sunday, the main character, is an orphan boy named after his father, William Ashley Sunday. One month later his father died of pneumonia, volunteering the civil war. He learned about his father from his mother. She thought her sins to read, pray to God, to work hard and to do right to others. At age twelve, his mother could no longer support her boys. She wrote a letter to the superintendent of Army in charge, asking him to allow Billy and his older brother to live in the Orphanage Home in Glenwood, along the other children. When Billy was in the Orphanage he did good and bad stuff , the good stuff was he gave a lesson to the bully and the bad stuff was that Billy couldn't get meal because he woke up late and behave sometimes bad but Ed that worked on the kitchen gave him food at night when the superintendent was asleep. Years later, both boys left the orphanage and went home. When they were at home they decided to help their mother so they looked for jobs.

Ed decided to work in Nevada, Iowa helping a farmer's wife with her chores, while Billy worked for his grandfather with the shores and planting crops. Billy was furious by the insults of their grandfather, so he left. Billy looked for jobs until he found one in the town with a man in a hotel by Christmas time Billy wanted to go and see his mother so there man at the hotel gave him a day to go and see his family for Christmas day. The hours passed and Billy was with his mother, next day he got fired, because he went back late. Bun when he got fired a man gave him work. One day Billy's boss and Billy were at a baseball game, there Billy gave him the news that he wanted to be independent. While Billy was working in Marshalltown, Iowa, Billy, as a fire brigade, they told him that his pay was living there. So he looked for other job while working there Billy got a work at a furniture store where he got well paid. He started playing city-league baseball and then went into a professional league, because he was known as the fastest runner in baseball, in the country .before getting into the professional league Billy was proved if he was fat enough to play .he played for Chicago, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia ; he was very popular with teammates and the fans.
