Being a Boyfriend
To be a boyfriend is not that simple. Actually nothing is simple but when it involves others, it becomes even more complex. Being a boyfriend comprises many factors. From my personal experiences I would like to consider three areas of being that makes a boyfriend, a boyfriend. I like to call this the science of becoming a boyfriend. These are the psychology, the sociology, and the philosophy of being a boyfriend.
Firstly, there is the psychology of becoming a boyfriend to a girl. By psychology I am referring to all the thoughts that are running through my mind while I am on the first date, while having dinner, and later on, and when the relationship becomes more stable. Thoughts on my first few dates are always, should I spike or comb my hair? Should I wear my jeans or khaki, boxers or briefs? Then my thoughts will evolve into self-consciousness like, do I have food in my teeth? I bet my breath smells horrid and I hope she doesn't see me sweat. Does she or doesn't she like me? Did I do anything stupid? Did I say anything inappropriate? How can I be more charming?
After being a boyfriend for a while the thought that crosses the mind of every new boyfriend is, is this girl worth dating? If the answer is no, then the relationship is pointless. If the answer is yes, I feel the best mindset to have is to enjoy each moment as it takes place and not worry about anything else.
Regarding the sociology of being a boyfriend, I just want to touch on the norm of dating. First it is important to find out as much as possible about girls. I feel the best way to find out what a girl likes is to ask a female close to me, like my mom or my good female friends. This can help us gain a better understanding of the female mind. Second is the rule of dressing. Before I become a boyfriend I find myself always dressing the best and waking up early to get ready. Then when I become a boyfriend I tend to get lazy and slack off in the looks department. I find this one of the worse things a boyfriend could do. Doing this could make a girl feel she isn't important enough and she doesn't mean that much anymore. The third aspect is about time. A truly essential part of being a good boyfriend is spending time with my girlfriend. The trick is to spend time with her, but not too much time. I have seen cases where spending too much time can lead to the end of the relationship when one feels overwhelmed. I feel that setting aside a day for the guys is just as important as spending time with your girlfriend.
Lastly I would like to speak of the philosophical dimension of being a boyfriend. Why does one even consider becoming a boyfriend? What is the true purpose
