Through television, magazines, newspapers, radio, and the internet there is always great people being advertised. There are so many great people out there, but one person who really worked hard, was determined to succeed and was very inspiring is Barry Bonds. Barry Bonds proved to be an inspirational baseball player in spite of the fact that he was able to set the record for homeruns after being doubted, and the difficulties of making it into the major leagues. Bonds was born on July 24, 1964 in Riverside, California. He grew up in San Francisco along with his two younger brothers. While growing up he was also very good at basketball, and football. During his senior year in high school, the Giants offered to draft him. Bonds declined the offer and decided to accept the athletic scholarship and attend college. He went on to Arizona State University, which he graduated from in 1986 with a criminology degree.
Barry Bonds developed his enthusiasm for baseball at a very early age, which came from many of the male figures in his life. His father, godfather, and cousin were all major league baseball players. It took many hours of hard work and determination to make himself the best he could be. Bonds dedicated much of his time practicing, playing, and also preparing himself mentally for the game. His debut to the major leagues was on May 30, 1986 playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates. During his first year playing for the Pirates he had 16 homeruns, 48 RBIs, 36 stolen bases, and 65 walks. All the work he put into his first year led him to be in 6th place for the rookie of the year.
Barry Bonds had such great determination to be the best player he could be and to overcome all the obstacles he encountered while playing baseball. He had so many accomplishments throughout his career. Some of his accomplishments include seven most valuable player awards, 14 time all-star awards and an eight-time gold-glove winner. With 762, he was the holder of the highest homerun record. Bonds also holds the record for a single season with 73 homeruns, 2,558 walks, and 688 intentional walks. All of his hard work lead him to set another record; he signed a 4.8 million dollar contract, which was the record breaker for the highest one-season salary in the history of baseball.
Unfortunately in 2003 Barry Bonds had a devastating year. While dealing with the death of his father, Bobby Bonds, he became involved in a steroid controversy. He was accused of taking steroids. Barry Bonds was called to justify in front of the grand jury. When they tested Bonds they found three performance enhancing substances. In defense to this was that his trainer recommended them to him, but at no point did he know that they were steroids. On top of that, On November 15, 2007, Bonds was indicted for perjury and obstruction of justice.
