TALENT MANAGEMENT PLAN
To succeed and dominate the competitive and the complexities of the global economy an organisation needs to have immense talent especially for a niche company like Atlassian. The future of talent management at Atlassian depends on the key practices and solutions that need to be implemented to sustain as well as improve business in the long run, roughly ten years. These will be mainly derived from economic evolution, demographic changes and technological advances. These main factors will provide a beneficial solution to how Atlassian works, organises and manages talent.
There are various economic factors effecting talent management within a firm but the three prominent factors are globalisation, knowledge economy and structural unemployment for Atlassian. The world and global economies have become very small due to globalisation. This has allowed international companies to integrate and enter new markets, create products to suit the market’s needs, relocate their operations in different countries to further improve business. Which creates works for a diverse range of employees. Atlassian has globalised and expanded in to various countries for operations and major companies such as NASA, Facebook, Twitter, Netflix and Toyota are Atlassian clients increasing business. However, this is not the same for the local market. Atlassian is situated in Sydney, Australia creating a pressure on local talent as they are not only competing with local competitors but also international companies and international competitors. To decrease this pressure Atlassian with the help of policy makers needs to promote and find more talent locally. “According to The Global Talent Index Report 13 from The Economist, policy decisions can have a significant impact on a country’s talent environment ranking”. This can be beneficial to Atlassian as new companies emerge from different markets, local talent and market can really help boost the business and stabilise any losses made from global markets.
As mentioned before, talent is a very significant asset and employees of Atlassian add value to the business by providing various talents. Atlassian relies on knowledge economy as they are dependent on the quality, quantity and information available. Organisations have found a way to incorporate external assets by providing forums, question and answer pages to their websites to have feedback from not only their customers but from everyone so they may answer questions, cutting calling costs, have critical or positive messages or improving a product. As Atlassian runs on a word of mouth business it would be great to implement a forum or a page to have customer feedback and have more advertising.
Economies need to have stability and balance or they risk of being insufficient, this can be related to the talent management sector. There are insufficiencies, one of them is the gap an employee may have with their skills, this means that an employee has skills that are no longer required due to factors such as changing technology, changing culture, the company relocating internationally. Which in turn creates a dis-balance between jobs available for the skills required. Due to the increase of globalisation and constant change in culture and technology Atlassian will need to adapt, create and plan for talent hiring and programs to teach new skills quickly so there are no challenges in the near future.
There are many demographic factors effecting talent management but the three most prominent ones are Age, Diversity and Education. Age in the workplace has always been a conflicting issue and everyone has their own opinion and have discussed it extensively. However, one point to take notice of is companies with a large amount of older staff will have to really think about taking the risk of relocating or expanding their operations into another country as it will put their jobs at risk. This is the case for small companies in developed countries as they are reliant on technology and knowledge information. Whereas, multinational companies in developed countries can expand and relocate operations successfully.
As well as the aging workforce, creating a diverse workplace hiring employees from different ethnic backgrounds and different genders can provide opportunities to those who feel underrepresented and marginalised from the workplace. Hiring employees from various cultures and backgrounds can add input to the company and therefore successful outcomes for business in the future. Atlassian, being an established enterprise has implement diversity in to workplace, but there is always more to be done. Atlassian mainly focuses on education, education demographics have risen and decreased over the world, education provides a basic to challenging set of skills to use in your preferred field. It is important for companies to assess a potential employee on their education as they become an asset to the company and add value with their learned education and skills. in order to keep up with the rapid changes you can always reskill your employees with a short course or small program.
