Assessment Package
The writer has taken the Online HIPAA Training also known as the Learn Something Assessment provided by the course materials section of the Case Management classroom The writer had what was previously deemed as a strong view of ethical principles and professional responsibilities within the human services profession. The writer feels that the online training in HIPAA has now afforded the writer a much stronger view of the ethical principles and such within human services.
The training has given the writer a new perspective into the roles and responsibilities of human services workers in regard to keeping a client's information confidential and how to safeguard the information from getting into other's hands. The writer has learned that there is a lot more to keeping important information of a client safe than the writer had at first believed.
The writer was also interested in finding out from the online training program that if the individual states had better laws to safeguard privacy, the state law would take precedence over the Federal HIPAA requirements. Having the HIPPA requirements as a detailed reference helps to ensure regulations are upheld on the part of the case manager, but having awareness of the regulations of HIPPA means the case manager will not have to reference the HIPPA regulations as often as someone without awareness of the guidelines.
The writer feels that self-awareness is essential to being a successful case manager. The self assessment conducted from the Chapter one figure 1.2 has helped the writer to determine an appropriate client base. The writer feels that having knowledge of the types of clients that the writer will be able to work with on a daily basis will be sure to help the writer keep the client he/she is working with as comfortable as possible while working with them on their issues.
In only a few of the scenarios depicted in chapter one did the writer felt he/she would be unable to work with the client detailed at all. The most prominent of the examples given was the one that was about a woman sexually molesting her son. The writer feels he/she would be unable to work with such a client to offer help for such a heinous offense against a child. The self-awareness assessment has also helped the writer to see that there are many complex issues that clients may have and need help with. The self assessment taken by the writer is sure to help the writer to ensure the comfort and openness of the client the writer is trying to help.
The case management process is designed to meet the needs of special populations, which are populations that require enhanced services due to the unique needs of the population.
