Artificial sweeteners, what are they are exactly? One may say that it’s good and another will say it’s bad. Artificial sweeteners are unnatural forms of sugar (sucrose). Little did we know it has come to the point that it is taking over majority of our foods. A study published in American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association defines artificial sweeteners as non-nutritive and suggests in the long term can lead to effects of appetite, energy intake, body weight and risk of cardiovascular disease .
Why do we use artificial sweeteners? Food sources which contain artificial sweeteners can include many soft drinks and desserts. These foods referred to as low calories and you only need a fraction of the synthetic sugar compared with regular sugar. Most of the time they are sweeter than regular sugar, which why they are also known as intense sweeteners. This sounds great, but may serve some health issues.
The research of artificial sweeteners is a continuous work to determine the health concerns and the benefits that come forth in relation to consuming artificial sweeteners regularly.
