Artifact communication
Artifact communication is part of non-verbal comunication. Artifacts are objects that can provide some form of information about us. They can express what we feel, think, our interests, hobbies, status in society or lifestyle . They are objects, often clothes, jewelry, pictures, trinkets. Humans should pay attention to artifactual messages to get to know others better.
According to Anne Morrow Lindbergh, "Good Communication is as stimulating as black coffee, and just as hard to sleep after". Humans communicate constantly through words; however, non-verbal communication can tell more information about humans than any other form of communication. Artifactual Communication is one of the many non-verbal techniques humans use to express themselves to the world through color, objects, and space. Humans should pay attention to artifactual messages to get to know others better.
Colors influence human physiologically, perceptions, and behaviors. Color affects humans physiologically through their emotional acceptance of colors. Jefferson High School, for instance, performed an experiment on the different levels of student's performance when they were taught in a room painted blue or red. The student's blood pressurelevels decreased and their academic performances improved because blue is a soothing color while red is a more provocative color. Color affects humans perception and behaviors. For example, a defense lawyer should wear blue because blue is calming to a jury. A black suit would not be a wise choice for a defense lawyer because the color black is viewed as powerful, which creates an uneasy feeling for the jury. The choice of color a human wears is important to think about when being interviewed for a job. One does not want to be turn down for employment due to a red shirt.. Humans react to colors either positively or negatively.
Humans make inference about the people on the objects they men. A person who wears ring(s) is viewed as married, engaged, or wealthy. People infer married people are mature, wise, and dependable before they even speak to them by looking at their finger on their left hand. Body art such as tattoos and body piercings communicated a variety of messages to different people. Humans usually react negatively to body art. Individuals with body art are viewed as more adventurous, creative, and are non-conformists. These interferences may be accurate for some people; however, people will treat others base upon these stereotypes.
