The article Melanoma is relation to reproductive and hormonal factors in women: current review on controversial issues discusses the importance of melanoma and how melanoma is most common and occurs the most during pregnancy and especially when a female's reproductive system because active. According the author of this particular article it was mentioned that melanoma can become active and severely cancerous during a woman's child bearing years. I personally disagreed with this particular article because of certain points and studies that were done. Melanoma can be serious at any time in a woman's life and is particularly well known in young women because young women it today's society thrive off of being tan and fit therefore young women spend a lot of time in the sun not realizing what damage is actually being done to their skin along with the diseases and cancers that could come from sun exposure. After reading the article I do realize that melanoma does affect the reproductive and hormonal system and has many factors but young children, teens, or young adults and the elderly can easily obtain melanoma through being exposed to the sun and staying outdoors for too long of a period. Even the elderly when taking certain medications can easily get cancer and/or get melanoma from being in the sun. I had a hard time believing that most women get melanoma when pregnant or their hormones are out of order. However I do feel that the reliability is credibility due to the fact that studies where done through skin specialists and the department of dermatology. Throughout this article I noticed that many studies where done and accurate numbers where shown but not when coming to melanoma in pregnant women. Hormonal factors do play a significant role in when cancer becomes active along with the sun exposure and having skin diseases or disorders such as melanoma. This particular article discussed that someone women who have or has a past history of melanoma should avoid pregnancy to cut down on the risk of having melanoma but I personally strongly feel that more studies should have been done and there should be more significant numbers within the studies to prove that melanoma does or does not increase nor decrease birth defects, pregnancy rates, and the term of pregnancy.
