Plot
He gets adopted, the guy goes to races, the guy gets a girl, they get married, they have a baby, his career gets better, his little girl starts school, his wife falls and hits her head, small concussion, doctors find a tumor in her brain, she moves to her parents house, his daughter moves to her grandparents house with her mom, his wife dies, then the grandparents want custody of the kid, they sue him, he gets accused of rape, he gets a job offer from ferrari to test drive their cars, he postponed the offer, he proves he didn’t rape the girl, he wins the case to keep his daughter, and moves to italy to work for ferrari.
The setting takes place in seattle washington, the scene switches from place to place. It takes place in modern day. the situation is that Enzo (the dog) gets adopted by a men l named deny and lives with him. as he’s laying in his deathbed he is reminiscing his life from start to finish.
the conflict is Deny with the support of Enzo goes thru a life having a dying wife, the grandparents pressuring him to be a better dad. Then having his wife died and her parents trying to steal his daughter. Then being accused of rape, and sued for custody of the child and is now pressuring himself to become a better dad, a better provider and a better driver.
Enzo is loving, caring and generous dog, his relationship with deny is that deny is his owner but also more like a good friend or family to Enzo, they do almost everything together except for racing only deny does that, but Enzo watches the film with him every time and enjoys it very much. His relationship with eve started a bite ruff because he thought she was going to steal Deny from him. But throughout the book they get a bite closer until they are such good friends that when she is very sick she wants him to stay with her overnight because she trusts him to protect her while she is sleeping to make sure she is safe and does not let her disappear. With Zoe he is a friend and a companion that will stay at her side his whole life and will alway protect her.
Deny is Enzo’s owner. We see him transform from a simple worker as en high-end auto mechanic to a loving husband and father. We will always have a deep bond with Enzo. He is a semi-professional racecar driver which means that he is often away from his family to race but always come back and loves his family. The bond that he has with Eve i don’t really need to describe because they are married which prove that they love each other and will always support one another no matter what happens.
Eve is Denny’s wife. At first she is a caring loving women but as her sickness begins she becomes an unhappy and sort of anxious person. When Eve was first introduced to Enzo he felt jalous of Denny’s relation with Eve which made him unsure of her but as they get to know each other they become fond of eachother. Her relationship with Denny is the same that i describe in the previous paragraph.
The tone of the book is tragedy because Denny always has to get through like his wife dying and eventually his dog, being accused of rape and almost losing his job and custody of his daughter is just tragic that one human being has to go through all that in his life.
The theme is how life can be compared to racecar driving. what they mean is that like in a race, when you think everything's going great and you think all is going well, if one thing happens like losing control of your car and everything goes to crap. because in the book Denny’s life is going well, he”s doing good in his races, his family is happy. but one event when Eve hits her head on the rock, it all goes to crap. from that point on everything turns around and his life becomes miserable. He learns that Eve has a brain tumor in the brain and dies, he doesn’t race as well, he’s being sued for custody of Zoe and gets accused of rape.
A literal statement is exactly what the person said. So if i said you look very nice today and that person did look good that day that would be a literal statement.
For example in the book at page 2, the first sentence It say “I’m old.”
That's a Literal statement because
