Appalachian Values Report
In my personal opinion I think they are making fun of how we speak, what our religion is and I kind of take it offensively when they say mountaineers because it makes us sound like we have no clue about anything. When they talk about our religion I take some of it very offensively because of the simple fact that you do not have to require an education or anything else if you cannot read then we teach you how and for what it is worth I was three years old when I first learn about God I may not have understood it all but I did understand enough to know that he is the savior and he will forgive you for your sins as long as you truly want to be saved in your heart. It also states that the original sin is that man is fallible, he will fail, does fail yes some people fail at tasks but it just makes them stronger and helps them learn how to succeed at the tasks at which we have failed. It really irritates me when they state that man was made at the end of the week when God was tired in the bible it never once states that God made man when he was tired it only says that God rested on the seventh day which is now known as the Sabbath day. Also when man fails at something and sins they are not saved until they truly ask for God's forgiveness and they have to mean it. Yes some men and women pretend to be something they are not but you should not judge people because not every person is like that. Most of all I really don't like how it states that mountaineers as they say are tempered by basic hospitality and neighborliness some neighbors may make us mad at times but we are not known to hold grudges at anyone. They say these things as though we mountain people are easily over powered by food. As for familism the mother does not burn the house down if there is not enough food us mountain people have our own ways of getting food such as fishing, hunting, and farming.
