Andrew Jackson and his supporters characterized Jackson as guardian of the Constitution, the common man, political democracy, individual liberty, and economic opportunity. He was not a guardian of the Constitution, political democracy, individual liberty, and economic opportunity, but I do agree that he was the common man. He closed the Bank of the United States witch was unconstitutional and went against the Supreme Court and moved the Indians. I do believe that he was the common man, he grew up in a very modest lifestyle. He was very limited about political democracy because it was only limited to free, white, landowning males. He was not a guardian of individual liberty, he only allowed certain people to have certain liberties. Andrew Jackson did not help economic opportunity he closed the Bank of the United States and put the money elsewhere which later caused the banks to collapse and cause a depression.
Jackson might of followed the constitution in some ways but in others he didn't, like closing the Banks of the United States its unconstitutional because nowhere in the constitution does it give him the power to destroy anything the Congress created or passed (http://www.directessays.com/viewpaper/89810.html). Although Jackson was the president and the war hero he grew up quite common, his father died before his birth he grew up with his brothers and mom at his aunts house. Jackson and his two brothers enrolled in the revolution where his two brothers died and his mother as a nurse. He became an orphan and lived with different relatives after searching through several jobs he finally found his place in the army.(http://ncpedia.org/biography/jackson-Andrew). Even though Jackson's political democracy helped make the executive branch stronger,(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacksonian_democracy) the democracy was only extended to free, white, landowning males. While he allowed any man to hold office by election, Jackson often changed federal's jobs by using the spoils system this was abuse of individuals liberties (http://www.oppapers.com/essays/Andrew-Jackson/71123). Jackson closed the Bank of the United States because he thought it was for the elite class, he wanted equal opportunities for everyone, but because he closed the bank and put the federal funds in "pet banks" these banks soon collapsed and cause a period of depression (http://ncpedia.org/biography/jackson-Andrew).
Andrew Jackson was not a guardian of the Constitution, political democracy, individual liberty, and economic opportunity, but he was a common man. Andrew Jackson did not follow the constitution. He was the common man. He only allowed free, white, landowning males political democracy. Jackson abused the spoils system instead of having individual liberty. He also ruined economic opportunity by closing the Bank of the United States and causing a depression.
