An Introduction to China:
Forbidden City, the China World Trade Center and the Spring Festival
Topic: In my book about China I would talk about these three important things:
Forbidden City, the China World Trade Center and Spring Festival
3.7 million square miles, over 1.3 billion people, 55 ethnic minorities, history stretches back over 5,000 years, and here is China, a country with so many attractive things to learn. Its history is long, its sceneries are magnificent, its economy develops fast and its customs are interesting.
So I would be really glad to tell you things about my country. If one day there is someone who knows little or nothing about China, and I need to introduce it to him or her, I would like to talk about Forbidden City, the China World Trade Center and Spring Festival.
So first, why is Forbidden City?
A professor from Beijing Normal University did a survey among college students about the symbolic things of China. It turns out that Forbidden City is ranked top ten. So why not Forbidden City?
It is a palace and home for 24 emperors during Ming and Qing dynasties. It is the ceremonial and political centre of Chinese government for almost 500 years. The unparalleled palace has been through over 500 years of history including the fights of power, dynastic changes, historical changes and also, some love stories.
Some online discussions like “what are the top 3 things that interest foreigners about China” , most of the foreigners’ answer is Chinese history. Then here is a good way for them to learn about it.
Moreover it is the essence of ancient Chinese buildings with more than 9,000 rooms in more than 70 palaces. It’s listed by UNESCO as the largest collection of preserved ancient wooden structures in the world. Its structure seems also worth visiting.
Then, second, why is the China World Trade Center?
“Billed as ‘the place where China meets the world,’ the China World Trade Center has, since opening in 1990, brought Beijing its first Starbucks, housed the capital's finest luxury stores and hosted business travelers, residents and office workers.” This is a quotation from an article in China daily, 2013. After reading this, I shall ask why not the China World Trade Center?
In 2008, a market survey company named DATA 100 did a survey among those foreigners in China about their impressions of this country. Many of them had an impression that Chinese people were still suffering poverty or even starvation. Seeing is believing, after they came to China, what impressed them most was the improvement of people’s standard of living. If most of them had a pessimistic impression of China before they came here, then it’s much more important to introduce the China World Trade Center to those who know little about China.
