In our Amish commuinty, we live in the 17th century we only speak Pennsylvania German. why do we call it pennsylvania German you may ask why we call it pennsylvania German due to when Amish came over in the 18th century they all went to pennsylvania so that is why it is called pennsylvania German . Amish were founded in Europe by a man of the name of Jacob Anman he is the one who gave us our name the Amish.
There are no modern features in our Amish community. Leisure time unlike modern Americans our leisure time consist of reading or writing the Amish newspaper. Going to church or visiting family even go to auctions at times for leuisre time. Modern trandtions in our community is thought of as the devils tools. Everything is heated and cooked with by gas. We make all food homemade and even make our .clothes homemade. We have gardens to grow our food; all of our homes are built by us and our done by hand. In our community unlike your community we do not believe in pictures because to us it is how the devil will take and capture our soul. Unlike you Americans we don't go to the doctor and if we get hurt and have to go to the hospital all whole community will come together to pay the hospital bill to help us out .
Now there are different communities within the Amish. There is what you call the Amish mennonites. Which use more modern luxuries which are by riding in a car, or eating fast food? They also will use batteries for lighting and other things in their home. But we have like most others encountered districmation where our communities are. Including hostile from our neighbors, we have also been called us a Christian cult which we are not a cult at all.
Our Anstey is a Swiss German. The term Amish is only supposed to be used for members of the faith community. Also there is no school after the age of 8th grade it is believed that no further education is needed after the 8th grade. After school is done men are do start working on farms or doing craftsmanship and all money is to go the parents to help provide for the family. All women are put to work by being school teachers, nannies or doing house work. We can only have their own money they make if they are married or 21 years of age. At the age of 16 and no older than 16 we are allowed to leave our community and given a chance to live the modern world we have 2 years to do so. After those 2 years we are to either join the modern world or come back to the Amish community. If we stay in the modern world we are no longer part of the family and will never see family again and must stay gone forever.
There are over 18,000 of us in the Unites States, including about 4,500 just in Ohio and about 1,500 live in south western Ontario, Canada.
