The main issues in the case

In this case, Aline Deneuve was the director of training in her company. And the company wanted to give a corporate retreat to the employees. As a director, Aline would like to know the employees' attitudes. So she chosen five random people to talk with and got their attitudes to the new retreat. But, to her surprise, the bad morale and poor efficiency management system was existed in the company.

Every person's problems and Why did these occur

Heather was the first person Aline meet. She was the administrative assistant. She did not like the retreat program. She hated her supervisor, Jack, because of not promoting her. And the reason was her boss did not like foreigners (she is from China). She requested supervisor could consider the diverse backgrounds and belief systems.

The main reason of her problem is attribution error which we called self-serving bias. She only blamed jack (External Fact) when she did not get the promotion. But ignored that she toke off a huge number of sick days (Internal Fact). If what she said is the truth. Jack has a perceptual error called Stereotyping. the Stereotyping consist by categorize, homogenize, and differentiate. He did not like foreigners (Categorize) and did not give the promotion to Heather (Differentiate).

The second employee Aline told to was Jack. He did not like the retreat program too. He thought he did not have the promotion due to he is black. And he suggested company to use this amount money to improve security system and to design a socialization and orientation program to help new employees adapt to the staff.

The problem is stereotyping. He divided himself into black group. This is a kind of categorization in stereotyping. And I think he has a little homogenization. He thought he was in sideline cause he is black.

June, manager of customer services was the third one. She was not willing to attend the retreat. She thought this program is wasting time. She did not like it. Actually, she did not like her job. She felt a ton of stress in her work. And this job was ruining her life and marriage. She felt tired about all of these things.

There are two things occur this issue. The first one the stress during her work. The second one is she lose the balance between work and life. These two make June tired and emotional. It is bad for not only her job but also her life,

Alison, the fourth, was a supervisor. She had interesting in retreat program. She did not agree inter-office dating. A policy should be developed. In her view, the silence of management is a kind of condonation.

She has a halo effect about inter-office dating. There also have some benefit of this. If there something she does not like, she will not let it happen under her management. This is a bit of the differentiation process.

The last person, Richard was glad to take part in the retreat. He acclaimed that this program had a benefit to morale, interpersonal relationship and socialization.

He do not have something wrong, but a little halo effect. There are two sides to everything. Retreat is not perfect. He is too optimistic.
