After Black Friday comes Small Business Saturday

I definitely believe that small retailers may not be able to compete with the big guys on Black Friday, but they're hoping shoppers will respond to deals and to the call to support small, local stores. At the same time I do believe we should show our appreciation for the small businesses worldwide. Small business Saturday gives us a chance to give back to all the small businesses around in our communities.

What affects Americans the most between Black Friday and Cyber Monday? What day do we take the most advantage of? Does the economy affect shoppers? Or will citizens always continue to shop on these holidays?

For me it has been a tradition in my household for my family to shop on Black Friday. I didn't start participating in Cyber Monday until just a few years ago. So I would definitely have to speak on behalf of me and family and say that Black Friday is more useful to us.

How this relates to Human Resource Management is that Human resources was there to inform the consumers about Black Friday and Cyber Monday through resources such as posters, cards, commercials, internet, emails, and many other sources that reached their target consumers in a accessible amount of time. In this, the consumers were able to reach their necessary goals that were set for these two days through the resources of Human Resource.

Small businesses can't usually compete with big-box stores' big sales on Black Friday, so many hope to use Small Business Saturday to get a piece of the action during the biggest shopping weekend of the year.

Small Business Saturday is the most important shopping day of the season for 36% of independent retailers, according to the National Federation of Independent Businesses. Only 24% say that day is Black Friday.

Ross Steinman, psychology professor at Widener University, says the popularity of Small Business Saturday is a revolt against big-box stores from consumers who are willing to pay extra and see the money go to their communities.

"There's so much negative attention in recent years on Black Friday and the rampant consumerism that's associated with it," he says. "Small Business Saturday is a response to that."

Jim Brownell, VP of retail solutions for GT Nexus, says that Small Business Saturday is a great opportunity for retailers because there will be "a lot of feet on the street," but it won't work unless they get the word out about
