Many children in this world don't know who their biological parents are. They have been taken care of all their life by adults who aren't related to them in any way. These children were adopted. Adoption is a worldwide process of taking in an animal or human, and taking responsibility for them. It also helps in giving someone or something another chance. In many ways this is a legal process, but sometimes it can be a situation where you take in a stray animal. If you think about it, would you ever take in a stray human, maybe unless it was a baby or a young child? Adopting an animal and adopting a human are two completely different things. When you adopt a human, you go through an entire legal process, where you have to fill in like a billion papers, for a good reason though. When you adopt a pet, you just have to fill in a few papers and that's it, bam, the animal is yours.
Not a lot of people adopt children; this leaves many children homeless or left in an orphanage. This is sometimes sad to see because a lot of people like to help the needy, but sometimes can't. How would you feel if you saw a little kid roaming the streets? You'd want to do something about it, right? With pets, it can be literally the complete opposite or it can be the same. Stray animals sometimes hit a soft spot in people's hearts, but people just can't take care of them, and just have to keep on moving past the stray animal. People who love animals tend to forget that they have to stop and think about how many pets they have, and if they can take care of them. When they forget, and adopt more than they can handle, it is called hoarding. The act of hoarding is where people take in more than they can handle. In animal hoarding, people bring in too many animals and cannot take care of the animals or themselves.
In the process of pet adoption, there are a few different ways. One way is to do it through an animal shelter or SPCA. This way involves signing papers, and sometimes getting your house checked out to make sure that an animal can live in the environment. The second way is where you buy an animal from a breeder, this form helps you know the background of your animal to see if it has any genetic problems that you should be aware of. Another way of adopting a pet is just finding a stray roaming the streets and taking it in. Although, if you do find a stray and pick it up, you should contact a local animal shelter, or put up signs that you found the animal, because someone or some family may be looking for it. Adopting a pet gives the pet another chance to live a new life and feel wanted. Humans aren't the only living being with feelings. There are some animals that are out of reach to adopt, as in wild animals, such as a tiger or a bear. In some states don't allow those type of adoptions, unless it's an in zoo adoption, which gives the zoo's financial benefits.
In the process of adopting a human, there are two main forms, closed and open. A closed adoption is an old process that is still around today. This is where the biological parents have no contact with the child or the adoptive parents. Open adoption is much popular; this adoption process allows contact with the biological parents and the child. Although the communication may be limited or even stopped, open adoption allows the opportunity to meet biological relatives. In the Concise Corsini Encyclopedia of Psychology and Behavioral
