Actors and Acting
The work of acting is not an exact science for actors. The identifier actor is the "preferred term when talking about the craft of acting" (Goodykoontz & Jacobs, 2011, p.55). An actor includes a reference to both female and males. In order for the director, to tap into the emotional core of his character he or she will cast actors that they believe will capture the vision and the uniqueness of his written story. In a good written play or film, the actors have a way of captivating their audience by inhibiting their roles (Goodykoontz & Jacobs, 2011). The textbook chapter identifies five different types of actors; impersonator, personality, star, wild card and character.
Five Types of Actors Examples
Identifying an actor as an impersonator is considered a demeaning term. The actor emulates or copies the mannerisms, dialect, and behavior of the character without creating the character (Goodykoontz, & Jacobs, 2011). An impersonator label may be used when an actor is trying to portray a famous character real-life or a historical figure, as well. The textbook gives Meryl Steep as an impersonator I have chosen Sigourney Weaver as my example of an impersonator actor. In my opinion, both Steep and Weaver are incredible actors in which their acting careers parallel in projects and works. Mrs. Weaver appeared in such movies as "Aliens", "Ghostbusters", "Gorillas in the Mist", "Dave", "Snow White: A Tale of Terror", "Galaxy Quest", and "Avatar".
An example of a personality actor would be Steven Seagal from the movies "Hard to Kill" and" Under Siege" and "Exit Wounds ". These are notable examples of how Seagal relied heavily on his strong personality and defiant attitude to play the character in these movies. His personality was so well-known that the audience followed him purely based on his name and martial art actions. I always enjoyed his marital arts movies in spite the fact he did not have a lot of dialogue usually.
" A star is a distinctive screen persona, who is well known and popular with the moviegoing public, often to the point that some avid movie fans get extremely curious about the actor's personal life"(Goodykoontz, & Jacobs, 2011, p64.). Star character actors are Sandra Bullock and Julia Roberts because of the way that people are interested in them, and their relationships and the money they earn per picture.
Stars are slightly different from wild card actors. Wild cards are actors that can play a wide variety of characters equally well without becoming typecasted (Goodykoontz, & Jacobs, 2011). A famous wild card actor would be Denzel Washington because he can play any character from good to evil. Over the years, that I have been watching Denzel Washington's career he has played
