Before I graduated High School I knew I want to work the medical field. I knew this because I have always had a drive to touch the lives of people who are in the need. To have a job in healthcare not only will I be doing what I love, I will be making an impact on my community. Helping people breathe. To have that as a career would give me a sense of significance. I will be able to wake-up everyday knowing that this day I will be saving someone's life. Not taking my life for granted. Give others what everyone in this life should have, a chance to breathe. I ask myself every day, what is the meaning of life? and what can I do to make a difference in this day? What I have come to realize, it's not about what I get in life, it's what I give back that's important. To give you a little background about myself, I have lived in San Diego my entire life. I loved playing sports. For seven years I was a competitive cheerleader. During sophomore year, we competed at nations taking second place. Our routine was televised on ESPN which I was very proud of. I loved playing sports when I was growing up because I enjoyed the feeling of being a part of a team. Having the skills and background of working as a team player is going to benefit me as a respiratory therapist. I will be working with a group, a team, bring fourth our best performance, passion to get the job done right, and to make a difference in others lives. Surprisingly, my ability to get good grades was not a comparison to my athletics. I carried with me a low self-esteem during high school. I had a lot of feelings of not intelligent . I struggled in all subject from writing essays to math. You could consider P.E. to be my most successful subject. I felt like an outcast in disguise. I had friends, was on a very popular and well known all star team, cheer captain of my high school cheer team, but felt very embarrassed about my struggles in all subject. My low self-esteem took me down a very dark road. I dropped out of high school with only three classes to complete. Instead of taking advantage of all the people that were there to help, I chose to believe that I was born with a problem that was unfixable. When my life became unnamable and I was tired of the life I was living I made a change. I turned my life over to a higher power got help and accepted my past. Layer by layer like an onion being pealed I have discovered that I am an amazing person. The old me who believed that I could never be successful slowly faded and now is gone. I believe we are given obstacles in life that we need to face. I know now, that I can take advantage of what is available to me. Not everyone is perfect. I know now when a challenge is put in front of me, I can look at it not as a treat, but as a complex puzzle that needs to be put together. That it will fall into the right place at the right time. It takes ambition and passion to want to be who you want to be. It takes a dream, an idea and a drive
